Week 11 Highlights

FBS teams took a week off from firing head coaches but the New York Giants fired Head Coach Brian Daboll, Samford (FCS) fired HC Chris Hatcher, and a few D2 schools announced head coaching changes. Our guys at Alabama, Oregon, and Texas Tech all got wins to remain in the AP Top 10 while BYU dropped to #12 after a tough loss in Lubbock. Texas Tech and BYU still sit atop the Big XII standings and could face each other again in the championship game in December.

In FCS, our guys at Lehigh and Tennessee Tech won again to stay in the Top 5, and Tennessee Tech is now 10-0 for the first time in program history. South Carolina State HC Chennis Berry is on a five-game winning streak and the Bulldogs are undefeated in MEAC play. He is now 38-8 in the past four seasons as a head coach at both SCSU and Benedict. HC Jordan Stevens and his Maine Black Bears have won six in a row and host CAA leader, Rhode Island, this weekend. A Maine win would put them in a tie for first place with one week remaining. Northern Arizona HC Brian Wright got a dominant win on Saturday and the Lumberjacks have a shot at making the playoffs with two more wins.

Many D2 teams have wrapped up their seasons while some still have a week to go before the playoffs begin. UNC-Pembroke HC Mark Hall has his team in the Conference Carolinas championship game for a rematch with North Greenville this weekend after an 8-2 campaign. Albany State HC Quinn Gray finished the regular season 9-1 and will host a rematch with Benedict in the SIAC championship game on Saturday as well.

Georgia Southern defeats App State to keep bowl hopes alive

Georgia Southern promoted Bryan Schor to Tight Ends Coach for the 2025 season after he served three years as an analyst. A former FCS National Champion QB at James Madison, Schor has been instrumental in the Eagles’ passing game for his entire time in Statesboro. On Saturday, that passing attack helped Georgia Southern get a win at Appalachian State for just the second time since 2007. QB JC French IV passed for 352 yards and rushed for a TD, while Kicker Tripp Bryant made four FGs in the 25-23 win. RB OJ Arnold had 105 yards rushing and the Eagles amassed 494 yards of total offense on the day. Georgia Southern is now 4-5 and can still reach bowl eligibility.

Sam Houston takes down Oregon State for first W of the year

Defensive Line (Edges) Coach Isaac Mooring joined first-year Head Coach Phil Longo’s Sam Houston State staff after spending last season as an Analyst at Texas. So far, things have been challenging this season and Saturday’s game at Oregon State started out in a familiar way. The Bearkats found themselves trailing Oregon State 17-0 in the second quarter before a 35-yard TD pass got them on the board with 1:14 remaining in the half. The Beavers wouldn’t score again while Sam Houston returned the second half kickoff 98 yards for a TD and later blocked a punt and returned it for a 31-yard TD. The defense forced three turnovers and added two sacks to help the Bearkats secure their first win of the season, 21-17.

Richmond rallies for comeback win

Richmond RBs Coach Rachid Ibrahim was back home in the DMV for Saturday’s Patriot League matchup at Georgetown and was able to go back to Richmond with a win. Rachid came to Richmond in 2024 after spending time as a GA at Virginia Tech under RBs Coach Elijah Brooks (X, email), and helped the Spiders to a CAA Championship in the team’s final season in that conference before joining the Patriot League this year. Playing with a committee of RBs this season after losing last year’s top rusher to the transfer portal, Richmond racked up 124 yards on the ground and RB Aziz Foster-Powell had 64 yards and a TD. After being down 21-10 in the thrid quarter, the Spiders inserted QB Ashten Snelsire who rushed for a TD and threw for two in the second half as Richmond completed the 31-24 comeback win.
